HCC and Veolia announce new recycling centre plans that could pave way for Alton incinerator

This week's Alton Herald highlights the recent announcement by Hampshire County Council of plans to build a new recycling plant at Chickenhall Lane, Eastleigh. This would replace the existing recycling Materials Recovery Facility at Alton.

No Wey Incinerator noted that the proposed new facility is to be less than half the size of the current Alton and Portsmouth MRFs combined, which does not seem sufficient to meet the national target to recycle 65% of waste by 2035, given that Hampshire only currently recycles 35% of its waste, compared to almost double this in Surrey.
